Just made one. But as a rectangle. I took the waistband from the jeans, pushed the leather label inside, closed the two edges and sewed the "ring" out if a belt loop on. It feels good in the hand. The sashiko needles will arrive on Wednesday, then I'll give it a try. My first try with regular needles gave me the feeling, that these needles are too short.

Thank you for that helpful summary. Could you please add what markers you use for darker denim or thicker dark/black cotton? I find it extremely hard to get good markers, especially for curvy patterns and circles on darker denim.

What I like best is how the simplest stich of all looks so amazing on a pair of pants. If you just need to mend, you could learn just that basic stich to keep your clothes going. A basic set of sashiko mending supplies for a beginner is available for twenty dollars on Etsy and instead of tossing costly clothing and destroying the planet, you could make a work of art.

Your videos are amazing. I am trying to learn this technique to keep some old clothes going. I can only hand sew, and not much above fixing a loose button or dropped hem. This is really very helpful. You create great confidence.

I want to thank you for this lovely video. This particular one is too advanced for me, but it gives me an idea of what can be done. I absolutely hate holes in my clothing and have a pair of corduroy pants I want to reinforce before a hole starts.

This is lovely! I'd probably add leather or a piece of metal in the middle as I can be foggy and press overly hard without Even realizing and stab myself lol. But for a normal person this is perfect just as is!! <3

I have very long fingers and I am finding it difficult to press the needle against the palm thimble and hold the needle between my thumb and index finger. I am using the longest needle available in my sashiko kit. Any suggestions?

which brand white pen are you using? I'm having a problem finding a white pen thatleaves a clear line on fabric.

Found it worked if I squared off the paper before folding
